The Irish Bookmakers Association represents licensed gambling operators in Ireland. Our members range from retail betting shops across towns, villages and cities across the country, to online betting and gaming operations.
We advocate for a safe, sustainable and well regulated gambling sector that protects consumers, supports employment and contributes responsibly to the Irish economy.
Safer Gambling at the Core
Safer gambling is central to everything we do.
Licensed operators in Ireland are required to meet strict standards in customer protection, safer gambling interactions, staff training, anti money laundering controls and advertising compliance. The IBA actively supports high standards across the licensed market and promotes continuous improvement in customer protection practices.
We believe that a viable licensed sector is essential to safeguarding consumers. Effective regulation, proportionate policy and commercial sustainability must work together to ensure customers remain within a regulated environment where protections apply.
Who We Represent
IBA members include operators of licensed betting shops and licensed remote betting services operating under Irish law.
Collectively, the sector supports thousands of jobs across Ireland and contributes substantial tax revenue to the State each year through betting duty, income tax, PRSI, USC, corporation tax where applicable, and commercial rates.
Our Role and Advocacy
The Irish Bookmakers Association engages directly with Government, policymakers and regulators to try to ensure that legislation and regulatory frameworks are practical, enforceable and proportionate.
Our work includes:
• Making detailed submissions on legislation and regulatory proposals
• Promoting high standards in safer gambling and compliance
• Supporting members through regulatory transition
• Advocating for proportionate, evidence based policy
• Highlighting employment and economic impacts
We fully support the objectives of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 and engage constructively with the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland to ensure effective implementation that protects consumers while maintaining a functioning licensed market.
A Responsible and Regulated Market
The IBA believes that consumer protection is strongest within a regulated system. Licensed operators are subject to Irish law, oversight and enforcement. Maintaining a competitive and commercially viable regulated market helps ensure customers remain within that framework, where safeguards, accountability and support services apply.
