Safer Gambling Code
Promoting Responsible and Safer Gambling in Ireland
At the Irish Bookmakers Association, we are committed to minimising gambling-related harm and ensuring that gambling remains a safe and enjoyable activity for all. Our Safer Gambling Code is a comprehensive guide designed to provide gambling operators in Ireland with clear standards and practices that promote responsible gambling in both retail and online environments.
All members of the IBA must adhere to this code.
Our Safer Gambling Code aims to:
- Minimise and Prevent gambling related harm and addiction.
- Protect children and vulnerable individuals from gambling harm.
- Ensure responsible gambling messages are promoted in retail shops and online.
- Support customers with tools to control their gambling, such as deposit limits and reality checks.
- Ban the use of betting with credit cards or credit.
- Responsible Advertising requirements
The Safer Gambling Code is divided into two parts:
- Retail Code of Practice: Guidelines for in-person betting shops.
- Online Code of Practice: Guidelines for online gambling operators.

The Safer Gambling Code is reviewed regularly to reflect the latest regulatory updates and industry best practices.
