Safer Gambling Week is back
Safer Gambling Week returns this November, and the Irish Bookmakers Association is one of the four trade associations driving it, alongside the Betting and Gaming Council, Bacta and The Bingo Association.
The campaign runs across Ireland and Great Britain and brings the whole industry together: bookmakers, casinos, arcades, bingo clubs and online operators, working with support agencies, training organisations and government bodies. The aim is to start more conversations about safer gambling with customers, staff and the wider public.
Three things we want everyone to know
How to gamble more safely
Simple habits that keep gambling fun and within your means.
Good habits ↓The tools that help, all year round
Limits, time outs, exclusion and blocking tools are there every day, not just in November.
See the tools ↓Where to find advice and support
Confidential helplines for anyone affected, including family and friends.
Get support ↓Six conversations to start
The 2026 campaign uses six short prompts, each in its own colour. Look out for them on posters, leaflets and social media throughout November.
Four good habits
Set your limits for time and money
Decide before you start how long you will play and how much you will spend, and stick to it.
Only spend what you can afford
Treat gambling as entertainment you pay for, never as money you need for bills or essentials.
Gambling shouldn’t interfere with your relationships
If it is causing tension at home or taking time from the people you care about, it is time to talk.
Tools are available to help you gamble more safely
Many operators offer tools to help you stay in control. See them below.
Safer gambling tools
These tools are there all year round. Ask your bookmaker or operator which ones they offer.
Set time and deposit limits
Put your own limits on how much you deposit and how long you play.
Self exclusion
Take a break by asking to be excluded from gambling for a set period.
Block gambling websites
Blocking software can stop gambling sites and apps opening on your devices.
Limit the gambling content you see
Many social media platforms let you reduce the gambling ads you are shown.
Block gambling payments
Many banks let you block gambling transactions on your card.
Find out more about each tool at the Safer Gambling Week website.
